NZ Gov to inject NZ$70M in Tourism

Rolled out over the next two years, In competition with other international tourism venues.
New Zealand has earmarked funding to host symposia and activities likely to have a “Butterfly Effect” for those throughout New Zealand, citing recently held Pearl Jam and Cold Play concerts earning the local economy over 33.7 Million.

New Zealand Government will spend the NZ$70 Million, in tourism and is an acknowledgement that the country is in direct competition with our Pacific neighbours, some of the spending is to be allocated as follows:

  • a $40 million Events Attraction Package to secure large-scale international events from 2026.
  • a $10 million Events Boost Fund to support existing events and attract international opportunities.
  • a $10 million Regional Tourism Boost Campaign to incentivise international visitors.
  • Up to $10 million for tourism infrastructure upgrades including cycle trails.

Not only are these initiatives good financially, they liven up our cities and introduce places of interest to visitors who would never have considered the stop at Auckland or further afield.

“This level of investment in events represents a significant funding boost and for international comparison puts New Zealand on a par with Queensland,” Louise Upston is quoted as saying.
