With the sale of 10 sachets of coffee by Moccona for $5, a shot across the bow of all the other coffee houses, the thought of a fire sale springs mind, when coffee machines of a thousand dollars or more, aren’t selling in the New Zealand market, Douwe Egberts, may be strategically positioning themselves in a potential price war. Who benefits, primarily the Supermarkets and the consumer, but the coffee plantation has to watch in despair as this potential price war eats into the profits, not to mention plantation workers who have to collect the pods.
It is said that in low tide that those who are naked get exposed, one only wonders what the likes of Robert Harris and Nescafe do.
